NYBBLES
AND
BYTES

We don't just play games, we make them!

Prepping to show at VCFMW19!

2024-08-31 Sat 2:17

Just finished doing some insane amount of work to prep selling Nybbles: Legend of the Drunken Snake at the Vintage Computer Festival Midwest 19! The whole family joined in, sitting around a card table, stuffing bags, folding paper, and cutting stuff out to make the units we'll end up selling there for $20 each. Each bag will contain a printed manual, 5.25" floppy disk with proper Nybbles label, and a small (256MB) SD card with a professional label applied.

92 copies of Nybbles, ready for sale to you lot!

We'll have a couple of tables in the middle of the show floor this year, amongst a whole bunch of other "Commodorians", with 92 copies available for sale this time around. As usual, my Commodore 128 wedge available, running the game for all to play.

We'll also have a bunch of vintage computers I've personally restored and tried to get working available for sale as well. Please come on by and take a look, play the game, and enjoy!

Can't make it?

If you can't get to VCFMW this year and want to buy a copy, don't fret! I'll have the game up for sale on this website about a month after I get back from VCFMW. Right now, I'm not sure if it'll be a digital only download, or a version with a printed manual and SD card, so stay tuned -- there will be a way to purchase a copy later.

Real Disk Woes...

On that note, I suspect this will be the last time I put together bags with real functioning disks -- it took a great deal of effort to get materials put together. In fact, the odd number of units available for sale this year is specifically because of media wastage!

In the middle of duplicating the game, I noticed that a few had some serious contamination on the surface of the disks. Some were so bad that the disks were entirely unusable. As far as I knew, these were new old stock disks from floppydisk.com. The 100 double density floppy disks I bought were sold to me at a price of $3/disk, unformatted! In comparison, the SD cards were less than $1 each, and had near zero wastage (one SD card would not read).

So given the large amount of wastage in the 100 that I ordered this time around, I think I'll hold off on doing distribution on 5.25" disks to save what is left for others to buy. Future distributions will be entirely on SD cards or cartridges only.

See you all this weekend!

READY.
